The scans were georeferenced, reprojected, merged and then clipped to match the quadrangle boundaries. Purpose: This grid was created in support of the Geologic Map of Three Sisters Volcanic Cluster, Cascade Range, Oregon (U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Map 3186). Supplemental_Information: The files were created using ArcInfo, a commercial Geographic Information System (GIS) by Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) of Redlands, California, using running version 7.1.2 of ArcInfo for the Unix operating system. The files are in ArcInfo proprietary GRID format. Although the digital form of the data removes the constraint imposed by the scale of a paper map, the detail and accuracy inherent in map scale are also present in the digital file. The fact that these file are based on scans of contour base maps with a scale of 1:50,000 means that higher resolution information is not present in them. Plotting at scales larger than 1:50,000 will not yield greater real detail although it may reveal fine-scale irregularities below the intended resolution of the data file. Similarly, where these files are used in combination with other data of higher resolution, the resolution of the combined output will be limited by the lower resolution of the files.
