The map is a mosaic of three flightlines of high-altitude AVIRIS data. This mapping was performed in support of multidisciplinary studies involving the predictive modeling of geochemical environments and mineral resource potential. These studies seek to determine the relative effects of mining and non-anthropogenic hydrothermal alteration on watershed surface water geochemistry and faunal populations. As hydrothermal alteration is also commonly associated with a variety of mineral deposits, the detection and characterization of alteration is an important element in the quantitative prediction of the likelihood of deposit occurrence. These data have been georeferenced to the Universal Transverse Mercator projection (Zone 13N) using a combination of second-order polynomial and cubic spline transformations. This map, in ERDAS IMAGINE (.img) format, has been attributed by pixel value with material identification data that can be queried in most image processing and GIS software packages. Purpose: The purpose of the image is to display the spatial occurrence of phyllosilicate, sulfate, carbonate, sorosilicate, and nesosilicate (topaz) minerals detected using AVIRIS airborne remote sensing data. The digital number (DN) values in this image have been attributed by material identified through spectroscopic analysis of AVIRIS data as shown in the following table. Each DN value corresponds to a particular color in the included color table. All pixels identified as a particular material have been assigned a single, discrete color. Pixels in which no material was identified have no material identification attribute, and these pixels are represented in the color table with a gray scale color (red = green = blue), and can either be displayed to show a gray scale background of a single AVIRIS band, or turned off (for example using ArcMap unique value symbology properties) so that only pixels in which material was identified are shown.
