The Aeolis Dorsa themselves have been interpreted to be inverted fluvial deposits. The low stratigraphic position of these deposits and the time required for their formation indicate a most likely formation age of Late Noachian to Early Hesperian, consistent with the age of fluvial units elsewhere on Mars. The superposed deposits modified by extensive aeolian scour likely represent processes that occurred during the Amazonian Period. Thus, we suggest the Aeolis Dorsa region contains geologic units that represent the global transition from the wetter Noachian to the more arid Amazonian.
