Geologic Map of the Guinevere Planitia Quadrangle (V-30), Venus GIS version --------------- Rationale and Intent: This geologic map was authored by David Crown, Ellen Stofan and Leslie Bleamaster III in 2025, and has been digitized as a GIS product for public release. Please use the original citation: Crown, D.A., Stofan, E.R., Bleamaster, L.F., III, 2025, Geologic map of the Guinevere Planitia quadrangle (V–30), Venus: U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Map 3539, 1 sheet, scale 1:5,000,000, pamphlet 15 p., https://doi.org/10.3133/sim3539. --------------- Project specific datasets are projected (meters). Projection: Venus Mercator Central meridian: 315 using the geographic coordinate system "Venus 2000" Major and minor axes are 6051800.0 m Also included is the *.prj file for the Venus 2000 Sphere GCS. They are all located in ...\CoordinateSystems. ---------------- File geodatabase contains one feature dataset: 1.) Venus2000_Mercator a) GeoContacts (polyline file) b) LinearFeatures (polyline file) c) LocationFeatures (point file) d) MapBoundary (polygon file) e) SuperpositionLabels (annotation file) f) SurfaceFeatures (polygon file) g) V30Units16 (polygon file) h) V30Unites16Anno (annotation file) i) VENUS_nomenclatureV30Anno (annotation file) These feature classes are grouped into “Mapping Layers” in the ArcGIS pro project. They are projected as Venus Mercator and should house all digitized map information. ---------------- Raster layers are included in the folder ...\Rasters\, and include: 1.) gedr_emissty (Magellan GEDR Emissivity) 2.) gedr_refl (Magellan GEDR Reflectivity) 3.) gedr_rmsslope (GEDR Magellan Slope) 4.) gtdr_elev (Magellan GTDR Elevation) 5.) VenusMagellanLeftLook_MAP2_MERC.jp2 6.) Venus_Magellan_C3_MDIR_2025m.tif (Magellan C3-MDIR Mosaic) These feature classes are grouped into “Raster Layers” in the ArcGIS pro project. They are projected as Venus Mercator. ---------------- Symbols are applied to each of the included feature classes. These symbols are adapted from USGS Open File Report 99-430 (Digital Cartographic Standard for Geologic Map Symbolization). These can be viewed and downloaded at http://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1999/of99-430/ --------------- To add/remove symbols, open ArcGIS pro project (.aprx file), right-click the feature class of interest, click “Properties”, and click “Symbology” tab. Highlight the symbol to alter and then click “Remove” or double-click to alter. Each feature class has an associated *.lyrx file that houses the symbologies located in the “Layers” folder. Click “import” on the “Symbology” tab and navigate to the appropriate *.lyrx to return to the full symbol list. ---------------- We suggest that all work is contained within a *\Working folder. Create sub-folders as necessary to house relevant GIS data and map data. ---------------- Comments are encouraged in order to assimilate beneficial GIS-based tools, datasets, and mapping approaches for future mappers. contact: Trent Hare thare@usgs.gov Jim Skinner jskinner@usgs.gov Corey Fortezzo cfortezzo@usgs.gov Marc Hunter mahunter@usgs.gov Anderson Moyers amoyers@usgs.gov
