- Abstract:
-
Stratigraphic relations and mineral zones associated with stratabound copper-silver mineralization in the Revett Formation are based on the descriptions of 40 diamond-drill cores and 86 measured sections in the Revett Formation and adjacent strata. Most of this descriptive information was collected in the field by exploration geologists working for ASARCO Inc., although 5 sections were measured and compiled by USGS personnel. Rock type and sedimentary structures was recorded to understand the stratigraphy and depositional environment of the Revett Formation. The amount of sulfide, oxide, and silicate minerals in synsedimentary cements was also described in order to understand if the distribution of these minerals could be used to predict the occurrence of stratabound copper-silver mineralization. The observations were systematically collected on forms; colored or black-and-white paper copies of this data was provided to the USGS for this study. The information on the forms was compiled into Microsoft® Excel spreadsheets which was then used to create graphical logs of the data for each diamond-drill core and measured section.
- Purpose:
-
These Excel spreadsheets were developed to provide digital lithologic data for 40 diamond drill holes and 86 measured sections.
- Supplemental_Information:
-
Each Microsoft® Excel file for a diamond-drill core or measured section consists of four worksheets named lithology, formation, mineralogy, and collar. - Attribute_Accuracy_Report:

Attribute accuracy was verified by manual comparison of the four worksheets in each spreadsheet to the paper log by three persons multiple times. Column headings in each worksheet were verified to reflect consistent names.
- Logical_Consistency_Report:
-
No duplicate features exist. Adjustments for apparent thickness to true thickness, inversion of overturned strata, or other corrections were made in spreadsheets, so finished graphical logs show true, undeformed stratigraphic thickness. Effects due to faulting or intrusions of igneous rocks could not be determined or removed but the positions of faults are identified on logs.
- Completeness_Report:
-
These spreadsheets were derived from hand-drawn lithologic logs created by Asarco Inc., Kennecott Exploration, and USGS. The data recorded on the spreadsheets is of a sufficient level of detail that little or no geologic data recorded on the geologist's paper logs were lost. Considerable effort was devoted to retain the integrity of the paper log data. The lithologic logs were recorded by a number of geologists with vastly different backgrounds and skill levels, as a result, the data reflects this.

Lithologic data of measured sections and diamond drill holes was acquired from Asarco Inc. and Kennecott Exploration as paper logs. USGS personnel mapped additional lithologic logs in the field. All lithologic logs were entered into Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, one spreadsheet for each measured section or diamond drill hole, totaling 126 logs.

- Detailed_Description:
-
- Entity_Type:
-
- Entity_Type_Label: mineralogy
- Entity_Type_Definition:
-
Worksheet that describes depth intervals (rows) (in feet), showing mineralogic data on gangue minerals (calcite, hematite, biotite, feldspar, pyrite...) and ore minerals (bornite [includes digenite and chalcocite], chalcopyrite, Cu oxide, and galena).
- Attribute:

Name of the measured section or drill hole. Drill holes will have "DDH" as the first three letters in the name.
- Attribute:
-
- Attribute_Label: section_logged
- Attribute_Definition:
-
For measured sections, if the item is attributed, then the measured section is a composite of multiple segments. The attribute is the name of the various measured sections used to make the composite. If a diamond-drill hole, then the attribute is the name of extended area where several diamond-drill holes are located, for example, Spar Lake, Rock Creek.
- Attribute:

- Attribute_Label: from
- Attribute_Definition:
-
Depth (in feet) measured at the beginning of a stratigraphic interval for diamond-drill holes and measured sections in the stratigraphic down direction. Item contains "no data" if data were unavailable for the section. This item is attributed for diamond-drill holes and measured sections only where no correction is needed (they are already in stratigraphic down direction and holes were drilled at an angle not requiring a correction) so that the "from_corr" value (item name) will not be attributed.
- Attribute:

Depth (in feet) measured at the end of a stratigraphic interval for diamond-drill holes and measured sections in the stratigraphic down direction. Item contains "no data" if data were unavailable for the section. This item is attributed for diamond-drill holes and measured sections only where no correction is needed (they are already in stratigraphic down direction and holes were drilled at an angle not requiring a correction) so that the "to_corr" value (item name) will not be attributed.
- Attribute:
