    Abstract:
      This data set contains interstate highways.This data set is a subset of a national data set obtained from the National Atlas of the United States of America (nationalatlas.gov). The metadata for this data set is the original data set metadata; however, it was updated to reflect the changes that occured while creating this subset. This data set was used as part of U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2006-5315, "Dissolved solids in basin-fill aquifers and streams in the Southwestern United States", by Anning and others (http://water.usgs.gov/nawqa/studies/mrb/salinity.html). 


      The original  data set portrays the major roads in the United States, Puerto Rico,
      and the U.S. Virgin Islands.  The file was produced by joining the
      individual State roads layers from the 1:2,000,000-scale Digital Line
      Graph (DLG) data produced by the USGS.  This is a revised version of the
      March 1999 data set.
    Purpose:
      These data are intended for geographic display and analysis at the
      national level, and for large regional areas.  The data should be
      displayed and analyzed at scales appropriate for 1:2,000,000-scale data.
      No responsibility is assumed by the U.S. Geological Survey in the use of
      these data.

        The 2MILRD data files were originally digitized by the National Mapping
        Division based on the sectional maps contained in 'The National Atlas of
        the United States of America' published by the USGS in 1970.  The files
        were updated and the Arc/INFO software command DLGARC was used to
        convert the State DLG optional-format files to Arc/INFO coverages.  The
        individual State coverages were then merged together using the Arc/INFO
        command APPEND.

      less than 10 megabytes in size is $1.00.  The charge for files that range
      in size from 10 to 150 megabytes is $7.50.  The charge for files of 150
      megabytes or larger is $15.00.  The charge is $7.50 for the Major Roads of
      the United States data set.
