The kandite clay mineral dickite was added as a spectral reference for this analysis. These results demonstrate that dickite and kaolinite cannot be accurately discriminated solely on the basis of spectral shape at ASTER spectral resolution. This map, in ERDAS Imagine (.img) format, has been attributed by pixel value with material identification data that can be queried in most image processing and GIS software packages. Purpose: The purpose of the image is to display clay, sulfate, mica, carbonate, Mg-OH, and hydrous quartz minerals detected using ASTER satellite remote sensing data over the White Horse replacement alunite deposit and surrounding area, including the Tushar Mountains, Pahvant Range, and Sevier Plateau. This map also shows the distributions of pixels matched to a reference spectrum of dickite. The digital number (DN) values in this image have been attributed by material identified through spectroscopic analysis of ASTER data as shown in the following table. Each DN value corresponds to a particular color in the included color table. All pixels identified as a particular material have been assigned a single, discrete color. Pixels in which no material was identified have no material identification attribute, and these pixels are represented in the color table with a gray scale color (red = green = blue), and can either be displayed to show a gray scale background of a single ASTER band, or turned off (for example using ArcMap unique value symbology properties) so that only pixels in which material was identified are shown.
