The southern Espaņola basin consists of a westward- and northward-thickening wedge of rift fill, composed primarily of Santa Fe Group sediments, that serves as an important aquifer for the city of Santa Fe and surrounding areas. Detailed aeromagnetic surveys were flown to better understand ground-water resources in this aquifer. This report presents a synthesis of these data with gravity data and other constraints. The interpretations were accomplished using qualitative interpretation, quantitative data analysis, and two- and three-dimensional modeling. The results depict the presence of and depth to many geologic features that have hydrogeologic significance, including shallow faults, different types of igneous units, base of Santa Fe Group, and basement rocks. The report presents map interpretations, geophysical profile models, and a digital surface that represents the base and thickness of Santa Fe Group sediments, as well as vector files of some volcanic features and faults. Purpose: The objectives of the geophysical interpretations are to characterize and image basin elements that are important for understanding the hydrogeologic framework, especially where those elements are concealed below the ground. Logical_Consistency_Report: Survey contracts specified the conditions and specifications under which data were collected. Standard industry practices of the time were followed in data collection and processing. Completeness_Report: Survey is complete for the area covered. Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report: These data are based on modelled criteria. The horizontal position, therefore, is only as accurate as the underlying presumptions of physical properties on which they are based. The data are a modelled interpretation that is based on various original data that are described more fully in the original report. Vertical_Positional_Accuracy: Vertical_Positional_Accuracy_Report: These data are based on modelled criteria. The vertical position, therefore, is only as accurate as the underlying presumptions of physical properties on which they are based. Lineage: Process_Step: Process_Description: Characterizing and imaging each of the basin elements using geophysical interpretation requires a different approach for each. The final interpretations take the form of lines on a map (map interpretations) and digital surfaces derived from three-dimensional (3D) integrated modeling. This complex process is described in full in the report. The Santa Fe Group is an inclusive term to provide an overall model of the base of poorly consolidated sediments in the basin. The model is intended to be for regional modeling. Thus, it does not depict many known complexities in basement structure, and the surface elevations may not connect properly with known topographic surfaces. .xyz suffix indicates it is an x-y-z ASCII file (one x-y-z triplet per line), where each triplet represents a point in the original grid from which it came. Both original grids of the base surface have an interval of 100 m in both x and y directions. The original thickness grids have an interval of 250 m, reflecting the interval of the smoothed topography grid that was used to construct it.
