Purpose: This dataset was created to support the development of flood-peak inundation maps for documenting the extent of the June 2012 flood within six severely affected communities in northeastern Minnesota. This dataset represents the flood-peak inundation depth for the town of Thomson (Thomson Reservoir outflow near the St. Louis River). Process_Step: Process_Description: The polygons of flood-peak inundation depth were defined in ArcMap. High-water-mark data collected as part of this study were used to create a raster of water-surface elevation (See Czuba and others, 2012). Ground-surface elevations, represented by a 1-meter LiDAR digital elevation model, were subtracted from the water-surface elevation raster. For all positive values of the Raster Calculation, the resulting raster represented the flood peak inundation depth. The raster of flood-peak inundation depth was binned into six separate rasters using Raster Calculator, according to: 1. Flood-inundation depth is greater than 0 ft and less than or equal to 1 ft. 2. Flood-inundation depth is greater than 1 ft and less than or equal to 2 ft. 3. Flood-inundation depth is greater than 2 ft and less than or equal to 3 ft. 4. Flood-inundation depth is greater than 3 ft and less than or equal to 4 ft. 5. Flood-inundation depth is greater than 4 ft and less than or equal to 5 ft. 6. Flood-inundation depth is greater than 5 ft. These six polygons of the flood-peak inundation depth were created from the six respective rasters using the Raster to Polygon tool.
