REMARKS FOR CURRENT YEAR.--Benthic macroinvertebrate community samples were collected as part of the National Water-Quality Assessment program (NAWQA) in the upper Illinois River Basin. One quantitative sample was collected in accordance with the NAWQA protocols (Cuffney and others, 1993). A Hess sampler was used to collect five subsamples from coarse-grained substrates in flowing water. The sampler had a sampling area of 0.086 m2 and was fitted with a 425 µm mesh net. All samples were processed by the USGS National Water-Quality Laboratory. Phylum, Class, Order, Suborder, Family, Subfamily, and Tribe are listed and arranged according to the USGS National Water-Quality Laboratory taxonomic hierarchy. Reach A begins 43 feet downstream of the boxelder tree on the island and continues downstream for 656 feet. The surface area sampled at reach A was 0.43 m2.
