LOCATION.-- Lat 42°26'10", long 89°11'50" (NAD of 1927), in SE1/4SW1/4 sec.11, T.28 N., R.11 E., Winnebago County, Hydrologic Unit 07090003, near left bank on downstream side of highway bridge over mouth of Sugar River, 0.5 mi south of Shirland and 7.5 mi upstream from mouth.

 

DRAINAGE AREA.-- 2,540 mi2, approximately.

SURFACE-WATER DISCHARGE AND STAGE

 

DISCHARGE: October 1939 to September 1958.

 

PARTIAL RECORD: Annual maximum, water years 1959 to 1971.

 

GAGE.-- Wire-weight gage read once daily. Datum of gage is 711.79 ft above NGVD of 1929 (levels by Corps of Engineers) (711.58 ft NAVD 1988).

 

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--

SURFACE-WATER DISCHARGE AND STAGE: Maximum discharge observed, 15,200 ft3/s Jan. 8, 1946, gage height, 16.72 ft; minimum daily discharge, 335 ft3/s Sept. 7, 14, 15, 1958; minimum gage height observed, 2.44 ft July 24, 1940.

 

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD.--

SURFACE-WATER DISCHARGE AND STAGE: Flood of March 1937 reached a stage of 17.1 ft, from flood marks, and an extimated discharge of 16,000 ft3/s.
