LOCATION.-- Lat 40°00'37", long 89°50'42" (NAD of 1927), in SW1/4NW1/4 sec.13, T.18 N., R.7 W., hydrologic unit 07130008, 200 ft upstream from water-supply dam, half a mile upstream from bridge on State Highway 123, and 10 miles upstream from Salt Creek, and at mile 45.9.

 

DRAINAGE AREA.-- 3,050 mi2.

SURFACE-WATER DISCHARGE AND STAGE

 

DISCHARGE: January 1948 to September 1949.

 

GAGE.-- Staff gage read twice daily. Datum of gage is 484.00 ft above NGVD of 1929 (483.67 ft NAVD 1988).

 

REMARKS.-- Records generally good except those for periods of ice effect, which are poor. Small diversion above station for municipal supply of Petersburg.

 

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--

SURFACE-WATER DISCHARGE AND STAGE: Maximum discharge, 12,600 ft3/s, Mar. 28, 1948, gage height, 14.00 ft; minimum discharge, 45 ft3/s, Oct. 4-5, 1948, gage height, 1.20 ft.

 

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD.--

SURFACE-WATER DISCHARGE AND STAGE: Flood of May 1943 reached a gage height of 23.9 ft, from staff gage readings by Corps. of Engineers.
