PLATTE RIVER BASIN

06707500 SOUTH PLATTE RIVER AT SOUTH PLATTE, CO

LOCATION.--Lat 39°24'33", long 105°10'10", in SE14 sec.25, T.7 S., R.70 W., Jefferson County, Hydrologic Unit 10190002, on left bank at South Platte, 200 ft downstream from bridge on State Highway 75, and 400 ft downstream from North Fork South Platte River.

DRAINAGE AREA.--2,579 mi2.

PERIOD OF RECORD.--July 1887 to September 1891, May to October 1892, October 1895 to September 1897, October 1898 to June 1900, October 1900 to September 1982, October 2001 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1310. Published as "at" or "near Deansbury," "at Deansbury and Platte Canyon," "at" or "near Platte Canyon," prior to 1901, and "below North Fork, at South Platte" 1914. REVISED RECORDS.--WSP 306: 1910. WSP 1310: 1887-91, 1893, 1896, 1900, 1904, 1915(M), 1922(M), 1936(M). WSP 1730: Drainage area.

GAGE.--Water-stage recorder with satellite telemetry. Datum of gage is 6,078.43 ft above NGVD of 1929. See WSP 1710 or 1730 for history of changes prior to Mar. 14, 1910.

REMARKS.--Records good except for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Natural flow of stream affected by transmountain diversions through Boreas Pass ditch, Homestake Pipeline, Harold D. Roberts tunnel, and Antero and Elevenmile Canyon Reservoirs, Cheesman Lake, diversions above station for irrigation of about 45,000 acres, and return flow from irrigated areas.
