ARKANSAS RIVER BASIN

07106500 FOUNTAIN CREEK AT PUEBLO, CO

LOCATION.--Lat 38°17'16", long 104°36'02", in SE14SW14 sec.19, T.20 S., R.64 W., Pueblo County, Hydrologic Unit 11020003, on left bank at upstream side of bridge on U.S. Highway 50 at Pueblo and 2.6 mi upstream from mouth.

DRAINAGE AREA.--926 mi2.

WATER-DISCHARGE RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD.--January 1922 to September 1925, October 1940 to September 1965, February 1971 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1311. REVISED RECORDS.--WDR CO-79-1: Drainage area.

GAGE.--Water-stage recorder with satellite telemetry and crest-stage gage. Elevation of gage is 4,705 ft above NGVD of 1929, from topographic map. See WSP 1711 or 1731 for history of changes prior to Oct. 1, 1940, and WSP 1921 for changes Oct. 2, 1940 to Sept. 30, 1965. Feb. 1, 1971 to Sept. 30, 1976, water-stage recorder at site 1.4 mi upstream at datum 4,725.30 ft above sea level (unadjusted).

REMARKS.--Records fair except for estimated daily discharges and those above 1,000 ft3/s, which are poor. Natural flow of stream affected by storage reservoirs, power developments, ground-water withdrawals, transmountain diversions, diversions for irrigation and municipal use, return flows from irrigated areas, and flows from sewage-treatment plants.

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD.--Flood of June 4, 1921, reached a discharge of 34,000 ft3/s, on basis of slope-area measurement of peak flow, gage height unknown. Flood of May 30, 1935, reached a discharge of 35,000 ft3/s, on basis of slope-area measurement of peak flow, gage height unknown.
