1 The standard site identification is based on the grid system of latitude and longitude. The number consists of 15 digits. The first six digits denote the degrees, minutes, and seconds of latitude; the next seven digits denote degrees, minutes, and seconds of longitude; and the last two digits (assigned sequentially) identify the sites within a 1-second grid. For example, site 370504116404901 is at 37°05´04" latitude and 116°40´49" longitude, and it is the first site recorded in that 1-second grid. The assigned number is retained as a permanent identifier even if a more precise latitude and longitude are later determined.

2 Multiple wells at a site are clustered within 30 feet of each other and screened at different depths. With the exception of wells ER-OV-03a2 and ER-OV-3a3, which are nested within the same borehole, multiple wells at a site are emplaced within individual boreholes.
