SAMPLE_ID:  03MW2147

DATE: 12/11/1998

Sample: 03MW2147 - Granite

GRANITE

A granite, sample 03MW2147 contains plagioclase (35%), quartz (30%), K-feldspar (25%), sericite (4%), muscovite (3%), oxides (2%), and chlorite (1%). Quartz grains show both serrated grain boundaries and recrystallized grains, suggesting partial annealing. Plagioclase grains are altered to sericite and show carlsbad and albite twinning. Perthitic K-feldspar seems to overgrow plagioclase in places. Very pleochroic chlorite probably replaced all biotite. A weak foliation is defined by micas and quartz aggregates.
