Navigation files (one per day) were extracted as comma-delimited ASCII text files from Fugawi Marine ENC Ver 4. A Garmin GPS 18 PC sensor was used during the flight. Fugawi recorded: latitude, longitude, UTM Easting, UTM Northing, UTM Zone, altitude, local date, UTC date, local time, UTC time, speed, leg bearing, true/magnetic indicator, leg distance, total distance, and sequence number once per second.

Images were acquired using a Nikon D1X camera. The camera's internal clock was synchronized to UTM. Latitude and longitude are recorded in the EXIF header of each image along with the time the images was taken. Image files are named according to the time they were captured. The image file name has the format yyyy_mmdd_hhmmssd.jpg (For example, image 2012_0207_133636d.jpg was taken February 7, 2012, at 13:36:36 GMT.) Images are associated with GPS positions according to the time of capture, with verification provided by the information stored in the EXIF header.

Processed Navigation

The processed navigation file can be accessed from within the nav folder or by clicking the following link: 12cch01.csv CSV file). The file contains 12 fields that are defined as follows:

Field 1: LONGITUDE - estimated longitude (decimal degree) position of aircraft
Field 2: LATITUDE - estimated latitude (decimal degree) position of aircraft
Field 3: HR_MIN_SEC - hour:minute:second (UTC)
Field 4: IMAGE - image filename (year_monthday_hhmmssd.jpg)
Field 5: IMAGE_URL - Web location of the image
Field 6: CONTACT_SHEET_URL - Web location of the contact sheet
Field 7: YEAR - year the photo was taken
Field 8: MONTH - month the photo was taken
Field 9: DAY - day the photo was taken
Field 10: PRE_POST - type of survey conducted (pre- or post-storm)
Field 11: STORM - (baseline or name of the storm)
Field 12: GEO_AREA - locations surveyed

Raw Navigation

Navigation files were extracted as comma-delimited ASCII text files from Fugawi Marine ENC Ver 4. A Garmin GPS 18 PC sensor was used during the flight. Fugawi recorded: latitude, longitude, UTM Easting, UTM Northing, UTM Zone, altitude, local date, UTC date, local time, UTC time, speed, leg bearing, true/magnetic indicator, leg distance, total distance, and sequence number once per second.

The raw navigation files can be accessed from within the nav folder or by clicking the following link: 12cch01_0207_garmin18.txt (text file). The file contains 16 fields separated by a space that are defined as follows:

Field 4: UTM Northing
Field 5: UTM Zone
Field 6: ALTITUDE (meters)
Field 7: LOCAL DATE (yyyymmdd)
Field 8: UTC DATE (yyyymmdd)
Field 9: LOCAL TIME (hhmmss)
Field 10: UTM TIME (hhmmss)
Field 11: SPEED (kph)
Field 12: LEG BEARING
Field 13: TRUE/MAGNETIC INDICATOR
Field 14: LEG DISTANCE (meters)
