Trackline Maps

Trackline maps were generated with ESRI ArcView 3.3 and ArcGIS 8.3 software, exported to Adobe Illustrator for further editing, and saved in JPEG format. These images can be accessed through the links provided below or from within the CRUISENAV folder. The navigation data used to create these maps have not been corrected for the offset between the shotpoint and GPS antenna (see fig. 1). For more information about the GIS project, refer to the Software page.

The trackline maps on the following pages contain links to interactive profiles, printable profiles, and line navigation maps. The line navigation maps, which have not been corrected for the GPS offset (see fig. 1), were created using CTI SonarWeb software and are stored in the LINENAV folder. For details about the interactive and printable profiles, see the Profiles page.

Refer to table 3 for a list of which lines appear on each trackline map.

Edited Shotpoint Navigation

Shotpoint navigation files and 500-shot-interval location files were extracted from the trace headers of each line using Seismic Unix software and edited to remove or correct spurious data points and fix incorrectly recorded dates. The navigation files were then processed with PROJ.4 software (http://www.remotesensing.org/proj) to generate latitude and longitude from UTMs and reformatted for use with ESRI GIS software. The edited navigation data have not been corrected for the offset between the shotpoint and GPS antenna (see fig. 1).

Edited navigation can be accessed through the links provided below or from within the NAV folder. Edited shotpoint navigation files are located in the EDITNAV folder, and edited 500-shot-interval location files are located in the 500NAV folder. Navigation for lines 04b01-04b19 and 04b20a-04b31 were collected with different UTM zone references and are provided as separate files (see note below). Each of these ASCII text files contains eight fields separated by commas and defined as follows:

Field 1: Longitude (decimal degrees)
Field 2: Latitude (decimal degrees)
Field 3: Trackline Number
Field 4: Shotpoint Number
Field 5: UTM-X*
Field 6: UTM-Y*
Field 7: Year
Field 8: Day of Year:Hour:Minute:Second (UTC)

Edited 500-Shot-Interval Location Navigation

*NOTE: All data were collected in UTM Zone 17; however, the navigation equipment was incorrectly set to UTM Zone 18 for lines 04b01-04b19 during data collection. Each data set was processed with respect to the UTM reference zone it was created in.

Raw Shotpoint Navigation

Shotpoint navigation files were extracted from the trace headers of each line using Seismic Unix software. Unedited navigation files are stored as ASCII text files in the RAWNAV folder. These navigation data have not been corrected for the offset between the shotpoint and GPS antenna (see fig. 1). Each file contains six fields separated by a space and defined as follows:

Field 1: Trackline Name
Field 2: Shotpoint Number
Field 3: UTM-X*
Field 4: UTM-Y*
Field 5: Year
Field 6: Day of Year:Hour:Minute:Second (UTC)

WARNING: These data contain errors and have not been edited.

*NOTE: All data were collected in UTM Zone 17; however, the navigation equipment was incorrectly set to UTM Zone 18 for lines 04b01-04b19 during data collection.
