Description:

Abstract:
This cover contains locations where landslide activity occurred between 1933 and 1960 and is limited to the southern part of the publication map area. Rex Baum transferred outlines of the landslide areas from oblique aerial photographs of the bluffs onto paper maps. John Michael digitized the outlines from the paper map. Shannon and Wilson, Inc. compiled the original data.

Purpose:
This cover shows the general distribution of historic landslides along the bluffs next to Puget Sound from Shilshole Bay to the north edge of Seattle. The polygons represent approximate areas where one or more landslides occurred and do not represent the boundaries of individual landslides. The data are not intended to be used at any finer scale than 1:24,000 scale. The data should not be used as a substitute for detailed investigation to determine site-specific slope stability or the existence of landslides at specific sites.

Supplemental_Information:
The coverage combines data from the U.S. Geological Survey and Shannon and Wilson, Inc. Data provided by Shannon and Wilson, Inc. are used with permission of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.

The linework was captured by hand digitizing from the 7.5' x 15' Seattle North quadrangle. The polygons were rigorously proofed. The coverage was edited and assembled using ARC/INFO software.

Logical_Consistency_Report:
Polygon topology present. All polygons contain label points and are closed.
Completeness_Report: The data are complete.

Process_Description:
The landslide polygon outlines were drawn on the 7.5' x 15' Seattle North paper map quadrangle. The outlines were interpreted primarily from aerial photographs. The linework was captured by hand digitizing the quadrangle. The polygons were rigorously proofed against the original map. The coverage was edited and assembled using ARC/INFO software.
