GIS DATABASE STRUCTURE

Cartographic projection

All of the spatial data in the Arc/Info coverages, and in the *.E00 and *.SHP files is stored in the same projection described by the following set of projection parameters:

Circumpolar Map projection parameters
Parameter Value
Type Lambert Azimuthal Equal-Area projection
Units metres
Spheroid Clarke, 1866
Projection origin 175 00 00 W (central meridian)
70 00 00 N
False origin (easting, northing)=(0, 0)
Radius 6370997 m

The \CIRCUM\SHPGEO\... *.SHP files contain geographic (longitude, latitude) co-ordinates.

Data sets

The following tables and notes describe the database fields which appear in the Arc/Info workspaces, *.E00 files and .DBF files which accompany the *.SHP files.

Unless otherwise noted, features in *.DXF files have values from the item 'DXF-LAYER' attached to the features within the file.

For BLT<type>.DXF files the linework is defined with item DXF-LAYER. Item ABBREVNAME which defines the identity of the metallogenic belts containes '/' characters and can not be converted. It is included as a text feature.

Because the metallogenic belt covers have one to many relationships (ie: belts overlap each other, therefore polygons may belong to more than one belt) attributes are in a separate INFO file called bltnam.dat. A 'relate' called bltnam in relate file bltnam.rel can be used to connect the metallogenic belt covers with this database. The link item is ABBREVNAME.
