Slide 13

13. This slide shows an area where sand has vented to the surface within the region of most severe liquefaction during 1811-1812. Vented sand forms a sheet more than a meter thick throughout the area of the photograph. Tens of square kilometers are veneered with this thickness. Such severe venting is atypical worldwide.
