14. This aerial view is an example of effects of liquefaction that are frequently encountered in the meizoseismal region. For scale, there is an Interstate highway interchange in the upper left corner. White spots are areas where sand was vented onto the dark-colored clayey cap. The vented sand has formed cones that are typically 15 to 50 cm in height. The width of a cone is commonly tens of meters.
