2. Startup

2.1 When the application starts why does my web browser also start?

The application starts your browser (if not already running) and loads the user manual so it will be immediately available.

2.2 I'm at the opening screen, what do I do now?

Click on either the Continental United States or Alaska to start the application and load the respective overview map.

2.3 I get a message saying the gxp file is missing - why?

The na.gxp file is placed in the installation directory of the application and contains the information needed to start the application. If you delete this file or make inappropriate changes, the application may fail to start. The default contents of the gxp file are:

[Project]
NumDefs=0
Multiple=No
DefaultDb=geodata.mdb
Local=No
Profile=No

2.4 Why do I get error messages saying the application can't locate a data file?

This can happen if you have installed the application and data to your hard drive and have not properly changed the na.gxp file. See the section on installing data to the hard drive for information on proper configuration of the gxp file.
