Biological Resources - Biological Resources at Risk

Contributors: Milanes

The LPB region is divided into 23 sections shown in the Biological Resources Index Map. Each section has an area map of the particular region and visually displays the Biological Resources within the area. The Biological Resources at Risk Species List (below) includes 11 species of freshwater fish, 16 species and two assemblages of marine fish, 23 species and 1 assemblage of wading birds, 22 species and one assemblage of water fowl, 28 species and one assemblage of shore birds, 12 species of sea birds, 12 species of diving birds, 1 species of reptiles, 5 species of sea turtles, 5 species of mammals, and 7 species of invertebrates. The list also indicates the species threatened or endangered status as well as its seasonal presence and breeding potential. These species are given a random species number to identify their presence in particular areas. These biological resources are shown as icons in the Biological Resources section with the particular species number or assemblage letter in each of the sections of the LPB region. The biological resources in each mapped area are indicators of the environmental sensitivity of the defined area and the species that are represented there. However, the species icons only indicate the diversity of the species in each of the 23 outlined areas, not their abundance.
