The Acetanilide standard is multi-purpose.
It can be run as a Conditioner sample at the very beginning
of a run to make sure the machine is running correctly. Acetanilide has known
values for carbon,
hydrogen, and nitrogen so when it is weighed (1-3mg) and run as a Conditioner
sample, the values should be
very close to the known values given above. Conditioner samples are never
acidified. Acetanilide can also be
run as a K-Factor standard to help calibrate the machine. When it is weighed
(1-3mg) and run as a K-Factor,
whether it be for Total or Organic Carbon, the average values should be very
close to those given above.
If either the Conditioner or K-Factor values differ greatly (+/- 10 %) from
those given above, call the Perkin
Elmer Service Representative.
