SONICATOR STEP
Materials Required:
  • Sonicator
  • Teflon tubes containing sediment and 2M Na2CO3
Sonicator preparation; link to larger image
Fill sonicator bath with water up to the height of the top of the tube rack. Fill sonicator with water

Place tubes in sonicator and sonicate until sediment is disaggregated - anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes.

*You should not place hands in water while sonicator is in use. Sonicator is also bad for your hearing so you should not remain in the room while it is running. There is also the danger of electrical shock.

*Refer to Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) before starting each process for further personal protection and potential hazards.

Proceed to Shaker Bath step.
