Note: The web version of this archive does not contain the SEG-Y Trace files. These files are very large and would require extremely long download times. To obtain the complete DVD archive, contact USGS Information at (888) ASK-USGS.

The field SEG-Y data files may be processed and plotted using seismic processing software such as Seismic Unix (SU). SU is Unix / Linux public-domain software provided by the Colorado School of Mines and is currently located at http://www.cwp.mines.edu/cwpcodes/. A Unix tar file (boom.tar) containing examples of SU scripts is provided in the SEISUNIX subfolder of the SOFTWARE folder located at the top level of the DVD .

You can preview thumbnails of all the seismic profiles by clicking on the SEISMIC PROFILES link provided below. To view the profile in more detail click on the desired profile thumbnail and a full size JPG image will appear.

An explaination of the SEG-Y format used to record the seismic data is located at the SEISMIC DATA FORMAT link below. A copy of the Federal Geographic Data Committe (FGDC) formal metadata for the seismic data is also provided by a link below.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

HOW TO DOWNLOAD THE SEG-Y DATA FILES

Note: The web version of this archive does not contain the SEG-Y Trace files. These files are very large and would require extremely long download times. To obtain the complete DVD archive, contact USGS Information at (888) ASK-USGS.

The seismic data files are binary encoded and cannot be viewed directly. Attempts to view the files in a text window or browser will result in long loading times and the display of unrecognizable characters. For this reason, use of a WWW browser is NOT the best way to download the data files. Instead, to download the data simply open the SEGY folder at the top level of the DVD and select the SEG-Y files you wish to download and either drag and drop these files on your hard drive or use the copy command. The SEG-Y formatted files have a .tra extension . The files with a .par extension are parameter files used by the Delph Seismic software. There is no need to download the .par files unless you are using the Delph Seismic software to play back the data. The plg_gga.pln file is also used by the Delph Seismic software to playback the data.
