Bedrock Photographs

The archived bedrock photographs may be accessed in two ways:

  1. An index map showing the location and distribution of the bedrock photographs from western Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The user may view the bedrock photographs for a given location by selecting the symbol at the position. When selected, a new browser window will be opened with an HTML page that contains a browse version of the bedrock photograph with descriptive text and links to the 300 dpi full resolution version of the image and, where available, browse and 300 dpi versions of thin section photomicrographs.
  2. A tabular list of the bedrock photographs is also provided. Where available, thin section photomicrographs can also be accessed through this tabular listing. The user may view the bedrock photograph or thin section photomicrograph for a specific location by selecting the desired hyperlinked icon. When selected, a new browser window will be opened with an HTML page that contains a thumbnail version of the bedrock photograph or thin section photomicrograph along with links to view a larger, browse photograph and the full-resolution image.

A tabular list in a Microsoft EXCEL spreadsheet containing a list of the bedrock photographs and locations is available on this CD-ROM.  The spreadsheet, wellsite.xls, is located in the data/welldata directory at the top-level of this CD-ROM.  The spreadsheet contains a list of the samples with their location, elevation of the well site, elevation of the upper bedrock surface, elevation of the top of the casing, total thickness of the strata penetrated by the well and, if available, the location of the bedrock photograph.
