DATE: 7/24/2000

Sample: 03MW2617 - Granite

GRANITE

Sample 03MW2617 is a granite containing K-feldspar (40%), quartz (30%), plagioclase (20%), biotite (4%), chlorite (3%), muscovite (1%), oxides (1%), and trace garnet, epidote, and sericite. K-feldspar porphyries show intergrowths with plagioclase. Biotite is being replaced by chlorite. Garnet, present in small amounts, is fine-grained (0.1-0.4 mm) and commonly rimmed by muscovite. Muscovite appears to cross-cut biotite, suggesting that it is probably a secondary mineral. No foliation is recognized.
