TRACKLINE MAPS

The edited shotpoint navigation and 500-shot interval files were used to generate trackline maps with ESRI GIS software ArcView 3.2 and 8.1. These maps were then exported to Adobe Illustrator for final editing and conversion to JPEG images. The maps can be accessed through the links provided below or from within the MAPS folder located at the top level of this disc. The GIS projects and shapefiles used to create the maps can be found in the ARC subfolder of the SOFTWARE folder located at the top level of this disc.

Click on the links below to view the trackline maps and access the seismic profile image files:

00SCC02 FULL SURVEY AREA MAP

00SCC04 FULL SURVEY AREA MAP

NOTE: To conform to ISO 9660 naming standards, all tracklines have been renamed. The "bss" prefix of the original trackline names was shortened to a single "b." For example, trackline "bss00_01a" was renamed "B00_01a."

NOTE: During data acquisition, a 6 ms trigger delay of unknown origin was observed in the profiles. This delay resulted in an extra 6 ms being added to the top of each profile. To rectify this problem in the field, a 6 ms recording delay was introduced on some of the tracklines. Lines B00_20 - B00_36 and B00_38a - B00_50 were recorded with this delay. For consistency in this archive, the processed profile images of all other tracklines have been shifted up 6 ms. However, the SEG-Y files have not been altered. Any further processing of 00SCC02 lines B00_01 - B00_19 and B00_37 - B00_38 and all 00SCC04 lines (B00_51 - B00_124) should remove the upper 6 ms of the record.

NOTE: No navigation was collected for line B00_01, and navigation is missing for the start of line B00_02. No digital data is available for lines B00_05a, B00_14, B00_28a, B00_52 - B00_65, or B00_82.

EDITED SHOTPOINT NAVIGATION

Shotpoint navigation files were extracted from the SEG-Y seismic trace headers and edited to remove spurious data values (large navigation jumps or an incomplete record) and fix incorrectly recorded dates. These edited navigation files can be accessed through the links provided below or from within the EDITNAV subfolder of the NAV folder located at the top level of this disc. These files are stored by cruise ID as ASCII text files with a .txt extension. They contain seven fields separated by commas. Each of these fields is defined as follows:

  • Field 1: Trackline Number
  • Field 2: Shotpoint Number
  • Field 3: Longitude (decimal degrees)
  • Field 4: Latitude (decimal degrees)
  • Field 5: Year
  • Field 6: Day of Year
  • Field 7: Time (Hour:Minute:Second in GMT)

500-SHOT INTERVAL NAVIGATION:
Also included on this disc are edited 500-shot interval files which can be accessed through the links provided below or from within the SHOTNAV subfolder of the NAV folder. These files are stored by cruise ID as ASCII text files with a .txt extension. Each file contains six fields separated by commas. Each of these fields is defined as follows:

  • Field 1: Trackline Number
  • Field 2: Shotpoint Number
  • Field 3: Longitude (decimal degrees)
  • Field 4: Latitude (decimal degrees)
  • Field 5: Year
  • Field 6: Date and Time (Day of Year:Hour:Minute:Second in GMT)

NOTE: The navigation data have not been corrected to reflect the 20-m offset between the shotpoint and the GPS antenna.

RAW SHOTPOINT NAVIGATION

Raw navigation data can be can be accessed through the links provided below or found within the RAWNAV subfolder of the NAV folder located at the top level of this disc. The data are stored by trackline number as ASCII text files with a .NAV extension. Each file contains several fields separated by a space. These fields are defined below.

LINES B00_01a - B00_28b and B00_45 - B00_124:

LINES B00_28c - B00_44:

  • Field 1: Shotpoint Number
  • Field 2: Longitude (decimal degrees)
  • Field 3: Latitude (decimal degrees)
  • Field 4: Date and Time (Day of Year:Hour:Minute in GMT)

WARNING: These data contain errors and have not been edited.

NOTE: The navigation data have not been corrected to reflect the 20-m offset between the shotpoint and the GPS antenna.
