Abstract:

This report describes and presents geophysical data (swath bathymetric and Chirp sub-bottom profile data) acquired by the U.S. Geological Survey in San Andreas, Upper and Lower Crystal Springs Reservoirs, San Mateo County, California. The surveys were undertaken as part of an effort to refine understanding of the location of traces of the San Andreas Fault within the reservoir system and to provide improved reservoir bathymetry for estimates of reservoir water volume. The surveys were conducted by the Western Coastal and Marine Geology (WCMG) Team of the US Geological Survey (USGS) and the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) under the terms of a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA).

Purpose:

These data are intended for science researchers, engineers, policy makers, and the general public.

For the swath bathymetry, the mean standard deviation of all cells in the San Andreas data set was 0.28 m (1 sigma); for Lower Crystal Springs 0.24 m (1 sigma); and for Upper Crystal Springs 0.16 m (1 sigma). No vertical accuracy is reported for the Chirp sub-bottom profiles.
