Colors have been applied to the CAT scan (left) to show soft silty clay (gray), firm sandy clay (green), and sand (yellow), as noted in annotations. The right column is a photograph of the core. Dates in years are interpolated from a model assuming uniform sediment accumulation (107 cm) since the pit was dredged in 1932 (1.6 cm/year).
