The most devastating earthquake of the year occurred in Yemen on December 13 and killed hundreds of people. the largest earthquake of the year, a magnitude 7.7, occurred in the Pacific Tonga Islands on December 19.
Again, a number of earthquakes occurred in the United States, but only minor damage was reported.
