Abstract
Reliable data on Utah's water resources are essential to development of a State Water plan. While the need for such data was outlined in the report entitles "Developing a State Water Plan - Utah's water resources, problems, and needs - A challenge" published by the Utah Water and Power Board and Utah State University in 1963, the discussion was, of necessity, brief. Further definition and scheduling of data collection and related investigations were known to be needed.
The report which follows was prepared by the U.S. Geological Survey as part of that agency's cooperative program with the State of Utah. It outlines, in greater detail, what the Geological Survey feels is an appropriate long-range program of investigations to provide part of the basic data which will be needed during the course of the State's water planning program. Some of these investigations already are underway, and others will be undertaken in the immediate future.
