Abstract
The Quartz Spring area covers about 50 square miles in the northern part of the Panamint
Range, Inyo County, California. It lies near the southwestern border of the Basin and Range Province. The paper describes the stratigraphy, igneous petrology, and the main structures of the area. The formations, as defined by the stratigraphy, and the structure are shown on a large scale topographic map and in structure sections.
The stratigraphy, except for Quaternary deposits that cover about one-fourth of the area, consists of Paleozoic sedimentary rocks preponderantly dolomite and limestone, representing each system from Cambrian to Carboniferous, as outlined below. No surface of erosion (unconformity) has been recognized between any of the formations or systems within the area.
