Abstract
Since 1949, the U. S. Geological Survey, with the cooperation of the Arkansas Geological and Conservation Commission, has been engaged in stratigraphic investiqations in northern Arkansas to aid in the search for oil and gas. Seven reports of these investigations, including both surface and subsurface studies, have been completed (Lantz, 1950; Maher and Lantz, 1952, 1953a, 1953b; Glick and Frezon, 1953; Sheldon, 1954; Frezon and Glick, in press). This report, which was completed in 1955, presents the detailed stratigraphic sections used in correlating and mapping rocks of Chester and Morrow age in and adjacent to the Mount Judea and Snowball quadrangles in Newton and Searcy Counties. The locations of the sections are shown in figure 1 and are described in relation to topographic and cultural features shown on the topographic maps of the Mount Judea, Snowball, and Marshall, Arkansas, quadrangles and the Harrison, Arkansas-Missouri, quadrangle. A generalized cross section through 8 of the measured sections alined on the base of the Atoka formation is shown in figure 2.
