Abstract
The U.S. Geological Survey began the Toxic Substances Hydrology Program in 1982 to study, in an interdisciplinary
atmosphere, the fate and effects of toxic substances in the environment. The objective of the Program
is to provide the earth-science information needed to prevent or mitigate contamination of the Nation's ground
and surface waters. To achieve this goal, research is conducted in four categories--focused field investigations
of contaminated sites, additional research on toxic substances hydrology, development of methods to study or
sample contaminated waters, and investigations of nonpoint sources of contamination. This report contains citations
of reports on research conducted under the auspices of the Program from the beginning of the Program
through the end of 1993.
