Abstract
Based on measurements of water level in 675 wells selected from a network of about 1,300 observation wells, ground-water levels during May 1973 - May 1974 declined from 2 to 4 feet in the Floridan aquifer through most of north and central peninsular Florida. Hydrographs of 55 wells show the downward trends of ground-water levels continued in several areas of heavy pumping, the most notable area being in west-central Polk County where declines ranged from 18 to nearly 28 feet. In northwest Florida, declines ranged from less than 1 foot to 2 feet in the sand-and-gravel aquifer. In the southeastern coastal part of the State, levels rose 1 to 2 feet. (Woodard-USGS)
