Data

This digital database was compiled with ESRI ArcMap version 9.3.1 and consists of files containing geologic map and topographic base data in ArcInfo file geodatabase and grid format. ESRI-compatible GIS software is therefore required to use the files of this database. The database consists of parts of eight 24,000-scale USGS topographic quadrangles. The scale of the source map limits the spatial resolution (scale) of the database to 1:24,000. The topographic bases are 1,000 dpi scans of the 1:24,000 topographic bases for Oregon. For this data release, the geodatabase and grid files were compressed as separate WinZip files. The zip files contain the metadata and the following layers:
ESRI File Geodatabase Feature Classes Description
Annotations Feature class containing annotations for the geology polygons, dip measurements, and key geographic locations.
ColorList Table contains a list of each geologic unit symbol and the color number from wpgcmyk.style for each geologic unit.
DescriptionOfMapUnits Table contains the geologic unit symbols, full geologic unit names, and unit descriptions.
DMU2GeologyPolys Relationship class related the DescriptionOfMapUnits table to the geology_poly feature class.
geochemistry_locations Feature class containing locations of geochemistry samples and measurements from Table 1 in pamphlet.
geochronology_locations Feature class containing locations of geochronology samples and measurements from Table 2 and 3 in pamphlet.
geology_arcs Feature class containing the geologic contacts that delineate the geology unit polygons.
geology_poly Feature class containing the locations of the geologic unit polygons.
leaders_arc Feature class containing cartographic leaders.
rivers Feature class containing rivers from Oregon Hydrography Water Courses dataset.
strike_dip_pts Feature class containing structural measurements.
vents_pts Feature class containing volcanic vents.

Download ThreeSistersGeologicMap.zip containing the feature classes and an ArcMap document that symbolizes the data to approximate the printed map. This document requires ArcMap to open. For the file to work properly, the current directory structure needs to be maintained.

Base.zip contains georeferenced raster scans in ESRI GRID format of the topographic base materials.

Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) metadata are available for both the digital geologic map and the topographic base data in Text format.

Also contained in the digital release are Excel versions of Tables 1, 2, and 3 (from the pamphlet, with sample locations added), found in the release as Table1.xls, Table2.xls, and Table3.xls
