Modeling Hydrodynamics, Water Temperature, and Water Quality in the Klamath River Upstream of Keno Dam, Oregon, 2006–09

Conversion Factors, Datums, and Abbreviations and Acronyms

Conversion Factors

Inch/Pound to SI

Multiply By To obtain
foot (ft) 0.3048 meter (m)
mile (mi) 1.609 kilometer (km)
acre-foot (acre-ft) 1,233 cubic meter (m3)
cubic foot per second (ft3/s) 0.02832 cubic meter per second (m3/s)
pound (lb) 0.45359 kilogram (kg)

SI to Inch/Pound

Multiply By To obtain
micrometer (µm) 0.00003937 inch (in.)
meter (m) 3.281 foot (ft)
square meter (m2) 1,550.0 square inch (in2)
liter (L) 33.82 ounce, fluid (fl. oz)
liter (L) 0.2642 gallon (gal)
cubic meter (m3) 264.2 gallon (gal)
liter (L) 61.02 cubic inch (in3)
cubic meter (m3) 35.31 cubic foot (ft3)
Watt (W) 3.41 British thermal unit per hour (BTU/h)

Temperature in degrees Celsius (°C) may be converted to degrees Fahrenheit (°F) as follows:

°F=(1.8×°C)+32.

Specific conductance is given in microsiemens per centimeter at 25 degrees Celsius
(µS/cm at 25 °C).

Concentrations of chemical constituents in water are given either in milligrams per liter (mg/L), which is approximately equivalent to parts per million (ppm), or micrograms per liter (µg/L), which is approximately equivalent to parts per billion (ppb).

Datums

Elevation refers to distance above the vertical datum. A local vertical datum (UKLVD) is used, established by the Bureau of Reclamation. For the purpose of this report, the conversion is UKLVD – 1.78 ft = NGVD29.

Horizontal coordinate information is referenced to the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD 83).
