Sample: 00MW0605 - Quartz Diorite

QUARTZ DIORITE

Sample 00MW0605 is a quartz diorite comprised of plagioclase (60%), quartz (5%), oxides (4%), epidote (2%), and sphene (1%). Some plagioclase is poikiloblastic, and seritization is common throughout. Quartz grains show subgrains and undulose extinction. Very pleochroic biotite occurs in bundles, as no foliation is recognized. Fine-grained epidote is likely an alteration product of mafics like hornblende (which is not present) and plagioclase.
