A quartz diorite, sample 03MW0107 is composed of
plagioclase (50%), muscovite (20%), quartz (12%), biotite (10%),
K-feldspar (3%), sphene (2%), oxides (2%), and epidote (1%). This sample
shows severe alteration of plagioclase to grow biotite,
muscovite/sericite, and epidote. No foliation is recognized. Biotite is
pleochroic and probably has, along with epidote, replaced mafic minerals
like hornblende. Fine-grained quartz shows undulose extinction. |
