ORTHOGNEISS

A fine-grained augen orthogneiss, the composition of sample 03MW0112 is estimated to be plagioclase (55%), K-feldspar (15%), quartz (20%), biotite (5%), sericite (5%) and trace epidote. Large (1-3mm), lenticluar plagioclase porphyroclasts are aligned in the foliation and wrapped by the quartz-biotite matrix. Minor gneissic banding is present as preferred bands of K-feldspar porphyroclasts aligned in the foliation.
