ORTHOGNEISS

Sample 82MW0015 is a fine-grained orthogneiss composed of plagioclase (35%), K-feldspar (30%), quartz (30%), biotite (4%), and trace muscovite, oxides, and sphene. Relatively small plagioclase porphyroclasts reach 3.5 mm. Alteration and recrystallization is extreme in seritized K-feldspar. Relict 8 mm-long K-feldspar porphyroclasts have totally recrystallized, but are still wrapped by biotite. A foliation is defined by micas and banding of felsic minerals.
