This is a Point data set. It contains the following vector data types (SDTS terminology):
Horizontal positions are specified in geographic coordinates, that is, latitude and longitude. Latitudes are given to the nearest 0.00001. Longitudes are given to the nearest 0.00001. Latitude and longitude values are specified in Degrees, minutes, and decimal seconds.
The horizontal datum used is D_WGS_1984.
The ellipsoid used is WGS_1984.
The semi-major axis of the ellipsoid used is 6378137.000000.
The flattening of the ellipsoid used is 1/298.257224.

These raw HYPACK navigation data are included as an archive documenting the survey area and the instrumentation used to manage the ship's navigation. These navigation data are useful for supplementing the seismic navigation where those data are absent or unreliable.

Positions of the ship (HYPACK line nav.) and the multichannel seismic system were determined using a Communications Systems International (CSI), Inc. LGBX Pro differential global positioning system (DGPS) antenna mounted above the cabin on the R/V Rafael. A Garmin 5312 was used to drive the boat and monitor water depths. Additionally, an Ashtech Z-Extreme was also used to record positions to HYPACK, but these data were not logged to any instrument. All DGPS data are assumed to be accurate to within + or - 1 to 2 meters.
Depth values were collected with a Garmin 5312 single frequency DGPS, which has an assumed vertical accuracy of 0.25 meters.
These files represent all the HYPACK navigation recorded during USGS Field Activity 2010-047-FA. No data were recorded for Julian days 195 to 197 due to weather conditions. The GPS data recorded to HYPACK include the following receivers: a Novatel DLV3 (RTK), Communications Systems International (CSI), Inc. LGBX Pro (DGPS), a Garmin 5312 (echosounder for boat navigation), and an Ashtech Z-extreme (DGPS). Only the data from the LGBX Pro (DGPS) were logged on the seismic acquisition system and used in post processing.
These are the original files recorded by the HYPACK navigation software. No additional checks or corrections have been made to these files.
