U.S. Geological Survey Data Series 542
Note: Core logging standards are described in the Methods section ("Core Description Sheets").
Core description sheets contain visual interpretations of lithology and structures, observed grain-size textures, physical characteristics, and sample location information. This identifying information and other characteristics are recorded on the paper copies of the core description sheets for each vibracore. The core description sheet files are available in JPEG (single page descriptions; cruises 07SCC04 and 07SCC05) or PDF (multi-page descriptions; cruise 87039) format. Although the vibracore description sheets used for the 87039 cores differ slightly from those used for the 7SCC04 and 07SCC05 cores, most of the column headers and recorded information is the same or similar. The following figures depict the two formats. Cruises 07SCC04 and 07SCC05:

Note: To view the core description sheets, an image preview application can be used for JPEG files and free Adobe Reader software is needed to access Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files. Files may also be viewed online with free Google Docs, if connected to the Internet. If you are unable to open any of these files, please contact Chandra Dreher (cdreher@usgs.gov). |
Accessing the Data To access the data for each core simply click on the Study Area Map (above) and navigate to the section that contains the desired core. Right-click (to open page in a new window) on a core or core ID label to activate the Core Data Table. The table contains a column entitled Core Description Sheets that presents thumbnail previews of individual cores and links to the downloadable JPEG and PDF files. |
