The data for this study have been divided into 4 groups: basemap, grid surfaces, bounds, and seismic.  Each of these main topics contains multiple datasets.  To learn more about what is available under each topic, select a data group:

basemap                 grid surfaces

METADATA:

Metadata for the data residing on the CD-ROM was generated using a combination of tools.  These tools include ESRI's ArcCatalog (URL: http://www.esri.com), the Army Corps of Engineers CorpsMet95 (URL: http://corpsgeo1.usace.army.mil), and the USGS tool MP (URL: http://geology.usgs.gov/tools/metadata/).  Each data file has an HTML format metadata file to describe it.  In addition, those data files in an ESRI compatible format which utilized ArcCatalog as part of the metadata creation have the accompanying XML associated with them.  Therefore, the metadata will be available to ArcCatalog for those particular files.

All metadata files are included in the compressed volume metadata.zip [1134 KB].

Metadata for OF 01-076 are available in the USGS Geologic Division Node of the National Geospatial Data Clearinghouse.

DATA USE TIPS

Many people will take this CD-ROM, put it in their computer, and immediately start using it.  Those familiar with GIS, particularly ArcView, should not have much trouble.  However, if you are not one of those types of people, please read the TIPS page to help you get started.

warning Because the ArcView project dataview.apr (located in the root directory of the CD-ROM) contains grids, this project can only be opened by ArcView if the user has the Spatial Analyst extension.  The Arcview project datapart.apr (also located in the root directory of the CD-ROM) does not contain any grids, therefore it can be opened by ArcView users who do not have Spatial Analyst.  The grids can be loaded as images, but because they are floating point grids the default grayscale colormap loaded with the grids makes viewing details more difficult.

Basemap:

There are 4 datasets that are considered part of the basemap of the study area.   These files are stored on this CD-ROM as ArcView shapefiles in the directory data/basemap.   The metadata files are located in the directory data/metadata and are available in HTML format as well as plain text format.  These links are to the HTML format.

All basemap files are included in the compressed volume basemap.zip [1109 KB].

Grid surfaces:

There are 3 primary divisions of ArcView grids.  The main 3 surfaces developed in this work include the lowstand, ravinement and the present day surfaces.  These three surfaces reside in the directory data/grids/main3.  The metadata for each of these surfaces resides in the directory data/metadata.  The eleven surfaces at 1000 year time increments resulting from this work reside in data/grids/surfaces.  One general metadata file describes these surfaces and is located in the directory data/metadata.  These grids are clipped to the study area bounds.  The final group of twelve grids represent the shifted 1000 year increment surfaces combined with the shifted landward DEM.  The amount of shift corresponds to the sea level at that particular time.  For example, 10,000 yr BP, sea level was 47 m below present day sea level.  In this case, 47 would be added to each grid cell value.  These grid surfaces reside in the directory data/grids/surfdem with the single metadata file describing these surfaces residing in data/metadata.  The metadata files are available in HTML format as well as plain text format.  These links are to the HTML format.

All grid files are included in the compressed volume grids.zip [29,404 KB].

Bounds:

These polygon shapefiles represent the facies boundary information used for the grid surface calculations at 1000 year intervals.  Each of these shapefiles are stored on this CD-ROM in the directory data/bounds.  One metadata file was written to describe all eleven shapefiles and that metadata file is located in data/metadata.  This metadata file is available in HTML format as well as plain text format.  These links are to the HTML format.

All boundary files are included in the compressed volume bounds.zip [599 KB].

Seismic:

Seismic-reflection profiles were collected in 1997 and 1998 aboard the R/V Corliss.  The bulk of the surveying was accomplished in 1997.  Some survey lines were duplicated in 1998 to assess changes between the two years.  This CD-ROM contains the seismic-reflection profiles interpreted to develop the grid surfaces.  The interpreted and uninterpreted profiles are stored on the CD-ROM as individual jpeg images as well as contained within a series of HTML documents.  In addition to the profiles, the seismic tracklines for each year are stored as ArcView polyline shapefiles.  In addition to the tracklines are shotpoint navigation files at 100 and 500 shot intervals for both the 1997 and 1998 data.  The table below briefly describes these datasets and their location.  One metadata file was written to describe all the HTML seismic profiles, which includes the jpeg seismic-relfection profiles.  This metadata file is located in the directory data/metadata.  A metadata file was written for each of the shapefiles representing tracklines and shotpoint navigation.  These metadata files are also located in the directory data/metadata. The metadata files are available in HTML format as well as plain text format.  These links are to the HTML format.

information bullet In the interpreted seismic-reflection profiles, the green line represents the lowstand surface, with the red line representing the ravinement surface.  Other lines of various color are other reflectors picked during the interpretation process, but not used in this report.

All seismic files are included in the compressed volume seismic.zip [649 KB].
