The Research Vessel GOSNOLD, owned and operated by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, is used by members of the WHOI - USGS cooperative project in studies of the Atlantic Continental Shelf and Slope.  The converted Army freighter is about 99 feet in length and weighs 250 tons.  The vessel has a complement of 9 officers and crew and accomodations for about 8 scientists.  Most of the field investigations of the WHOI - USGS program have been carried out aboard the GOSNOLD.
