CHN START-UP

The CHN can either be started from standby mode or from shut-down mode.

PROCEDURE FOR CHN WARM START - STANDBY MODE

The CHN is usually in this mode.
Press Purge Gas - Press "Yes" for Helium for 200 seconds; Press "Yes" for Oxygen for 30 seconds.

After the system has purged completely, it will go into STANDBY.

 

Start running a Conditioner Sample by pushing Single Run (see Setting up an Auto Run). A Conditioner Sample is run at the beginning of each sample set in order to calibrate the machine. This sample is comprised of 1.5 to 2.5mg of Acetanilide and run as a sample.

*If Helium is low, then the machine might give you a message to change the tank - (see Changing the Gases).

PROCEDURE FOR CHN COLD START - SHUT-DOWN MODE
Flip the white button on the right side panel of the machine to the "On" position.

When you turn the machine on, the system will check itself. If there is a failure, it will be displayed on the screen and you will have to look it up in the PE Manual or call the Service Representative.

If the checks pass, you'll see the following prompts on the screen where you will enter information:
- Timing -- use international time (24hr)
- Date -- enter day, month, year
- Operator ID -- use letter sequence posted for name
- Fill Pressure -- should read 6.488
- Run Counters -- number of runs left in the tubes
- Combustion Temperature - should read 926
- Reduction Temperature -- should read 640

The machine will take approximately 2 hours to get up to temperature.

Follow warm start procedure.
