GLORIA Sidescan-Sonar Imagery for Parts of the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone and Adjacent Areas
BackgroundGLORIA data for the U.S. EEZ Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands area were collected on a single survey conducted between November 4 and December 3, 1985. The purpose of this cruise (1985-039-FA) was to map the entire seafloor of the U.S.EEZ for the Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands area. When surveying was completed a total of 9 digital mosaics of approximately 2-degree by 2-degree area, or smaller, were completed for the region (EEZ-SCAN 87 Scientific Staff, 1991). The GLORIA image of the EEZ of Puerto Rico covers about 216,000 sq km of seafloor. North of Puerto Rico, the survey covers parts of the Greater Antilles Outer Ridge and the Puerto Rico Trench; south of the islands, it covers parts of the Muertos Trough and the Venezuelan Basin. Data also were collected on the insular slopes north and south of the islands in water depths greater than about m (Scanlon, 1989).
